Preamble // Vorwort
Eduard Zwierlein about WCCJC?
Music is a transient journey through arranged time. It reflects the flighty, fragile, elapsing and leaves its reverberation. There's music one simply enjoys. There's music that touches. There's music that swings and makes your feet go restive. And, there's music that shocks. It shocks cause it entagles into a sound adventure. It shocks old auditory habits and provokes a new hearing. Rilke writes, “You need not understand life, then it will become a celebration.” I found the following variation at the door of a senior with dementia: “You need not understand life; it doesn't understand you too.” Some music is a unintelligible celebration: you don't understand yet to what you were invited. But you anticipate, what Nietzsche is writing, because it also shines through in this music: “Without music, life would be a mistake!”
Daniel Knef (alias gran où lée) about WCCJC?
The title “Which Chemicals Caused Jesus Christ?” was already established before the work on the pieces. The tracks emerged within a relative short period. Their order on the EP reflects the chronology of their origin to a large extent. Iteration, habituation, oblivion and alienation as an opposite pole are among with the very obvious, issues the work deals with.
Repetitive, synthetic elements encountering human voice, which continuously modulates between the abstraction of atomized sounds and phonetic structures to the point of broken semantic.
From time to time, several elements become sources of irritation for the ensemble, e.g., the disturbance of a loop by the emersion of another one, sabotating its effect, noisy overmodulations and the inclusion of irreproducible and provocated glitches, which occured during the working process, in case it was possible to record and integrate them.
WCCJC? started in 2000 as a CD–R edition of a few copies, which in succession became regular Christmas presents to selected persons. Since Christmas 2002 WCCJC? is also available as an MP3 EP. It oughtn't have gained any popularity whatsoever.
